2017

Bibu Labs conducts research out of University of Waterloo to harness potential of Human-Computer Intelligence AI in cybersecurity.

2019

Penfield.AI emerges from Bibu Labs as a product company, mapping out the skillsets of humans to unlock potential in Security Operation Centers (SOCs)

2021

Penfield.AI evolves as a product company and continues to grow their newly branded business.

Our Team

Tahseen Shabab

Founder & CEO

Tahseen was a cybersecurity consultant for firms like IBM, Royal Bank of Canada, Fortune 60 Telco, a North American Government and more. He was the lead developer of AppScan Source on Cloud – a SAST tool used by many Fortune 500 firms. AppScan was a leader on Gartner’s Magic quadrant. Tahseen graduated from the UWaterloo in Electrical Engineering and holds 3 awards from UWaterloo and 2 awards from IBM.

Nicole Ballestrin

CFO

Nicole brings 20 years of financial leadership experience across a wide variety of industries including technology (including SaaS), professional services, energy, retail, advertising, not-for-profit and healthcare in the public and private sectors. Nicole currently supports several early and growth stage companies as CFO leveraging the financial expertise she has gained over the years, through her company Aspire CFO. Prior to founding Aspire CFO, Nicole was CFO and Head of HR at McKinsey & Company Canada, a renowned management consulting firm. Nicole was also previously CFO at McMillan LLP and held a number of senior finance positions at Sears Canada, Nortel Networks and EY. Nicole is a CPA, CA and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto.

Long Tan

Head of Engineering

Long Tan has worked in startups for 6 years. He’s experienced in building and scaling distributed systems and services, and applying Machine Learning in recommender system, NLP, and search. He loves developing full-stack software to empower users. Before studying computer science at the University of Toronto and starting his engineering career, he worked as an accountant with a Master's degree in Business and Accounting.

Eric Gingras

Cybersecurity Sales Consultant

Eric was preavisly the Head of Cybersecurity Product at Element AI, CTO of Qohash (a Cybersecurity Statup) and Professor at Collège de Bois-de-Boulogne. Eric is one of the rare professionals with in-depth expertise in both Cybersecurity and AI.

Sohail Habib

Head of AI

Sohail is perusing his PhD from University of Guelph in Cybersecurity. Previously he has worked on optimization and AI based projects for problems related to botnet detection, collaborative-robotics and building control systems with companies like Telus, Honeywell, and ESI Robotics.

Kate Larson

AI Advisor

Kate is a research scientist at DeepMind. She is a professor in the Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo and is affiliated with the AI group. Kate also currently holds a University Research Chair and the Pasupalak AI Fellowship. She completed her PhD in Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University.

Larry Smith

Strategy Advisor

Larry is a professor at the University in Waterloo, an expert in the areas of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Forecasting. Specializing in forecasting and the economics of innovation, he has worked with governments, financial institutions, professional associations, and companies developing new markets or new products. He has also mentored many of his students on start-up business management and career development. The most notable start-up he advised in its infancy is Research in Motion (RIM), maker of the BlackBerry.
